He introduced himself, and Tyler was amused by his name. His next word, which was obvious, was edited out of the clip. So, why did the show start out like this? And why did Ryan Seacrest tease Idol fans on his radio show yesterday, saying there would be a major apology issued by the show's producers? My theories: 1 It was an obvious ploy to boost the ratings, which so far have not been as strong as last season's viewership. And what exactly was last week's outrageous behavior?
I'm not sure. The only thing I can remember that was even close to outrageous was Tyler's use of the F-word, which got bleeped out during one broadcast when he was rattling off some senseless rhyme about a duck. He also was a bit flirtatious with a gorgeous year-old contestant, a former Miss Teen U. And he was practically drooling over a hot Aerosmith fan. That stuff wasn't nearly as controversial as the opening week, when Tyler was flirting with female contestants as young as 15 or 16, and praising one for her very short skirt.
Okay, I'm not gonna throw in any redneck jokes about family members being a little too tight The Idol judges invited the sister to sit on the panel during Corey's audition. His sister's review: "I think he was amazing. He gives me chill bumps. I thought she was ok, but not stellar.
Randy Jackson didn't like her first song but told Hollie she "nailed" the second one. He's wrong. She didn't. Why this is even an issue is beyond me. We have severe weather situations here in the USA and in Australia; we have unrest in Egypt; and we have severe economic situations all over the world.
Yet, we worry what a has-been like Steve Tyler has to say. Just another example of how the majority of the population has their priorities out of whack. I don't know Tyler and seldom watch Idol, but my thoughts on four letter words, as jokes or otherwise, are used by people who have a limited vocabulary and little creativitey.
I don't usually watch Idol Haven't other than youtube clips Been watching it this year. I like the antics and real life responses Steven Tyler should have been there long before now. People please! I love the new judges. Steven Tyler makes these daunting, silly, scary and unnecessary auditions so much more pleasant to watch. So far, I'm loving the "new Idol". Keep at it Steven! Steven Tyler IS kind when he should be, critical when necesssary but overall his faces and comments are what make this show.
People used to criticize Simon for his rudeness, callous comments and, though frequently the only juidge who was honest, mean with his critiques. Funny that people are complaining about this trio after all the years of "Simon"isms. I actually think J Lo is more knowledgeable than Ellen, not as gooey or sappy as Paula and a much prettier judge than Cara. Honestly, I think this trio, as least so far into this season, is a breath of fresh air.
Like others have suggested, if you don't like the show Wsetcoastkid- you must indeed be a kid not to know a legend like Steven Tyler Personally, the only reason I've been watching is because of Steven Tyler! I have always like Tyler in Aerosmith, but being able to see his personality — I love him!! I thought the apology the other night on AI was idiotic. Be yourself Steven Tyler! You are the bomb J-Lo rocks too! She is beautiful and is sensitive to the contestants feelings.
Randy has even been a bit nicer so far this season. Keep doing what you are doing! Uh, Nigel, it's not that we don't have a sense of humor So, maybe just Hire better writers?? I really like the new judges this year and I think Steven is hilarious! I only wish I could carry half a tune so I could go audition for Idol and have the opportunity to be 'oogled' by Steven Tyler! Of course he flirts!! Just what were you expecting? Don't reign him in, give him the bit and let him run with it!
The apology wasn't funny. What was funny was when Steven Tyler said, "Read my lips". That's funny because, excuse me, does he have lips? Of course it was funny! The past few years I stopped watching because I couldn't take Paula's nonsensical blabbering anymore. This year I won't miss it. And please, has everyone forgotten "bikini girl? I knew it couldn't have been real. It is the producers who decide what to show on-air, so why would Tyler need to apologize for?
These shows are not live, so they can easily edit out objectionable material if they wanted to. I find Tyler and Lopez to be good judges. I don't think being "Politically Correct" is one of Tyler's strengths. He's a fish outta water His time will be limited to one season. Whether Steven Tyler's or Nigel Lythgoe's comments were a joke or an intended provocation for declining ratings is irrelevant. American B List Idol is a joke. Honestly, I was not going to watch anymore Luv the line up and being able to hear what Steven has to say.
Folks, you've hired a rock star, one of the best Keep it up Steven This is especially true in a show like american idol. It was a tv moment crafted by the network so that we would talk about the show and then tune it to see what zany stuff Tyler will do next.
Looks like its working. Of course it was a joke They could have edited out his "antics". It is much better than I thought it would be. J LO and Tyler are very good. Randy is trying to be a Simon Cowell but needs some work. He's funny, charming and certainly doesn't hold back!!! Steven, please continue being who you are. The television viewers definitely need to lighten up. They bring a druggy rocker on to be a judge then expect him to be politically correct what a joke. I do not like that Steven Tyler to put it mildly.
Never did; never will. To be fair, I gave it a chance; watched the first two shows this season. Which made me conclude Tyler is worse than what I ever imagined it could be. To top it all off; Jennifer Lopez turns out to be an even worse judge than he is. Contestants do not get any useful feedback any more this season, all they get is sillyness and fluff.
And Randy should be embarrassed to sit next to these two airheads. It is like the joke SNL made last year when news about the two new judges leaked prematurely.
They showed a casket, and then Tyler and Lopez. Ihave thrown American Idol off my Tivo and will never watch it any more. And judging no pun intended the plummeting ratings, it looks like I am not alone. Love Steven Tyler and love what he brings to the show Idol was dying a slow painful death and this new panel is just what the show needed.
Singing is what he does best. I think he is a fantastic as a singer. Maybe he should judge the contestants in the field he is a master at. Leave their names alone. That's all I'm saying. He is wasting his obvious talent otherwise. I have albums, in vinyl, I have turned white from playing them so many times from Aerosmith. Fantastic band. Probably one of the best rhythm sections ever to take the stage.
I wouldn't ask Bill Gates or Steve Jobs on advice on how to make lasagna, but if I have a problem with my computer I would like to see the man flash his expertise! This the silliest B. I've read in a while. It's never ceased to amaze me how the things we see and say all the time are censored as though the viewing audience isn't from this planet, like we are afraid to see an accurate representation of ourselves on TV. Its like old I love Lucy Episodes with separate beds in the bedroom.
Even then it was ridiculous. People need to grow up. They are just words, and we use them every single day. Steve Tyler, I really like what you bring to Idol, you seem to have actual compassion for some of these contestants and yet you also do what you know and that is analyze and speak the truth. As far as your innuendoes, well I don't really know what to say, the girls dress to impress and you seem to be obliging them, but hey you are HOT and if you are looking at the women, then you have given them a compliment.
Trust me, Steven Tyler is still a singer Steven, shame on you for doing anything besides getting up on stage and singing!! Good Lord Drug addict to be a judge?
I'm not sure he can ever reason for a simple thing in life I'd rather see him in the court of law for making money while taking drugs. If athletes are banned and punished by taking drugs in order to make money then the same should be reflected to anyone else, being a star or not I just love those who trash my brother Tyler, worth million's upon millions Thank you from those of us who work hard, don't make millions but enjoy hitting the couch at the end of the day and just smiling for an hour Muck the critics!!
Do what you do best and keep smiling Come on, Have fun with it Guys!!! Remember when this show was about discovering new talent? It was pretty exciting as such and I fail to see why it needs to be "turbocharged" with the sophmoric humor. Of course, I remember when MTV used to be a music video channel. Contrary to what MTV tells you, they existed before their official birthdate. It was a pay-for channel that had no commercials and nothing but music videos.
Just video after video after video, with veejays that used to talk about music, music, and more music. Remember when music considered an art form? Now it's all about politics and social issues. Granted, music has always been reflective of society i.
Lenin walking out of a Dmitri Shostakovitch concert but it was in the music and required no additional commentary. Let the artists express themselves and please, skip the commentary. I don't need anyone to interpret it for me. Let me use my own mind and stop trying to shape it for me. Contrary to some beliefs, you commentators don't necessarily "know any better" than I do.
Been listening to Steven Tyler, as the frontman for Aerosmith, since the early seventies. I liked him when he was just a singer. We love the chemistry and we love all 3 judges.
Steven is so funny and unpredictable which is what makes for a very interesting show. Anyone who wants to see the real Steven Tyler needs to read Joey Kramer's book Steven Tyler is are real person and is what Ameriican Idol needed.
I stoped watching americam Idol because it was getting boring. Steven puts interesting humor in it with his very real personality.
Keep it real Steen. And I'll keep watching. Oh Singer,.. I think you don't like him for one reason only,. Let's face it, just look at all these comments from people. He certainly does add some realness to the show, and it WAS getting boring! I don't love the guy, but let's face it, he's doing great! As for Dozer, Joey's book is only one side of the story.
Like Joey isn't an ass? And Heather kinda has hit something there. And Max, FAR from washed up,. I'm sure he's laughing all the way to the bank. He didn't come from AI. And Westcoastkid, you are just that. A kid. Right on Squanch! Well said! Which way do the producers and the audience want it?
Looks to me like the contestants certainly take it seriously. Looks to me like the prices charged for the Idol contestants' CDs are taken seriously. If it's a joke, then let the contestants in on the joke. If it's meant to be a serious jump-off into stardom for the lucky few, the it should be taken seriously.
Everybody get together and decide — and then let the rest of us know your decision so we'll know whether American Idol is a joke or not. Untill then, I guess we're not supposed to care I think it is a big joke this year.
He should not be allowed to act the way he does on prime time tv. Parents who care what their children watch will not allow their kiddos see this kind of "entertainment??? We have turned it off and choose not to watch any longer. The guy needs to quit trying to be the center of attention and grow up. My kids can do without "American Idol" and the "let me have all the attention judge". I intend to see that my family have good quality tv in their tv viewing time.
Yeah well I wanna see all these designer murder shows off prime time TV. Get your priorities straight. I am not surprised by Steven's ability to judge on AI. Anyone who has read his bio on any site would know his music background from childhood and that he is much more than a singer. Now people are seeing what us long time Aerosmith fans have known, he is funny, yeah uses those 4 letter words but who doesn't, is really a musician not just an entertainer AND has a big heart, a man who cares about those he meets And AI's joke I couldn't agree with you more!!
The rest of the world is now finding out how awesome he is He is one of a kind and I feel blessed to have met him!!!! Tyler's just another washed up rocker trying to keep his name out there, alot like tommy lee.
People that follow this lame show and have not gotten off the bandwagon are idiots. Yeah, you reading this that got offended. You are an idiot. Steven Tyler? How did he become a celebrity, much less a judge. Was he on those late night horror movies? He is the lead singer of one of the greatest rock bands ever. And sold far more than them combined. I find the new Idol show very boring and the talents they approve of even more. No one can replace Simon Cowell and he is missed on the show.
Okay, this is a first for me. I only occasionally read blogs and I never comment but I have to break my silence. Steven Tyler is far and away the best thing that has happened to Idol in a of years. I'm almost his age so I should know better but I love him. Keep him and you will keep an audience that probably isn't your target audience but we are still here. Oh, Steven, where were you when I looked great in a two piece? Just reading through all the headlines and came across this nonsense. American Idol has never been seen by my eyes and never will be.
I see no point in the use of 30 minutes of time for such nothingness. The show is in the category as the so-called reality shows - a waste of electricity and other energy to produce. If somebody wants to go on this farce and they end up being humiliated or hurt by a host, what has society really lost? If you don't watch the show and have no intention of watching the show, how can you make an intelligent or otherwise comment about the show.
Why would you want to? The popularity of American Idol says a lot about the state of a large percentage of the American populace Brain dead. It's not something said or something that was done that was a joke American Idol is joke. They should have let it die a few years ago. The entire program is a joke. I don't know anyone who has a bit of intelligence that still watches the garbage program.
I believe the show needs a little humor after having Simon for all those years. Tyler needs not apologize for words spoken. It's the true American, is what it is all about. People are not polite or even that apologetic in the real world, so why should it have to be the same on television.
He's honest, funny and sympathetic. That should be safe They can muck you up! Please leave my Steven Tyler alone and get a life! These three are the best judges you have now!! Keep up the great job! Love Steven Tyler. He is the real deal. He knows what it takes to sing hit songs.
Actually he is in a short list of singers that have hits over so many decades and so many hits! Rock on Steven!!!!!! Love these people who claim they don't, and never have watched Idol, the show stinks, etc but they're still on this thread posting comments on the topic. As for Tyler, he's a freakin' rock legend, so he brings a credibility none of the shows judges have ever had. J-Lo is smoking hot, too, and has been a pleasant surprise to me so far, and I've never been a big fan of hers.
The show will be just fine. I love the show with Steven. Of course, I don't see some of his humour, but I don't usually laugh anyway.
I watch every seasson and I don't live in a trailer nor do I own one. I enjoy watching the talent from discovery to coronation and I buy the music once it is released. It's nice to feel like I'm a part of it too.
Am I completely off or is the worst judge this season Randy Jackson? His attempt at meanness are ridiculous. Simon Cowel is Simon Cowel, if you attempt to play his part, then you'll fail miserably.
He was always my least favorite before, and now it is most certainly clear for everyone to see. Steve is sometimes weird, but he certainly adds a great energy to the group.
And I thought Jennifer Lopez was going to be terrible, but how wrong I was. She is better than Paula, she knows how to speak, and she is a sweetheart. She seems completely honest in her reactions and by far she is my favorite of the three, and maybe my favorite of all these years.
I was not looking forward to Idol this year with Steven Tyler, but he has changed my mind. He is great! He knows when to crack up and when to be serious. Just what this show needed! JLo is JLo She is just awesome. Seems like he is taking over the Simon role. I like seeing him be more honest with the contestants.
I say Charlie Sheen should be a judge. I can't think of any other person that is a better judge of 'talent' other than Charlie. Steven Tyler was pretty awesome Imagine Charlie sitting there all F'd up hitting on J-Lo? Get Charlie in there and really crank up Idol ratings!! If he leers at young girls so be it, if he cusses a bit so be it, he is exactly what American Idol needed to get "young" again. It was getting pretty same ol' these last few years, talk about a metamorphosis!!!
Now if some of the people who take themselves all together too seriously could get their heads out of their butts, they may be entertained!!! Idol, don't change a thing, you have been reborn!!!!
I absolutely love Steven Tyler. He listens very carefully to the potential contestants and his facial expressions are priceless. I laugh so much and am truly enjoying watching all 3 judges this year. Finally, judges who know what they are talking about. Keep it up Steven, you are one of a kind! I'd be bored if Steven was not himself or had to conform to network limitations.
And the talent this year is just really remarkable! Thanks, Nigel. I LOVE the revamped show! LOVE the judges! They all seem to mesh together SO well! Each of the judges bring their own "special sauce" and thats what makes the show so good!! I think Steve Tyler is great for Idol He and J-Lo understand what these contestants are going through because they've been on their side of the audition process.
I applaud Idol for finding two great replacements. They are a breath of fresh air!!! I had tears rolling just listening to the staff crack up behind the scenes. Its about time we had some humor again on Idol. Keep it up. He's a rocker and the show it taped. It's not a surprise he said what he did and they could have cut it but didn't Enough, they all got caught. OK so wht he said the F word, your telling me Simon was never meen to any contestants?
He has a funny last name so what. My last name is the same but spelled diffrent as a paricite "Leach" get over it people. Steven Tyler is alot better judge than some stupid euro trash simon cow oops spelled that wrong.. You hire Steven Tyler then freak out that he gets a bit mouthy? You get what you pay for, folks. What isi the big freaking deal? Is it not ? Lighten up people Steven gives it the reality it so desperately needed - nothing against Simon.
I love it Steven, keep up the "colorful" words I agree with you, I have never read so many , negative statements, on something that is suppose to be for entertainment. If they dont like it turn it. Good Lord people what has this country come too when you have nothing to do but attack people for no reason other then entertainment. Kudos Jorja glad you spoke up and all the rest who have a real sense of humor. I can't believe people waste hour after hour on the nonsense the network vomits onto the airwaves every week.
Love, Love, Love the new judges. I stopped watching idol last year because it became boring. This brings new life to the show, haven't missed a single episode. A very fun season!!!!!! Steven Tyler is the only reason I'm still watching the show at all!!!! It's entertainment people. Get a grip!!! It is Steven Tyler. Leave him alone. How childish of Steven Tyler to play rhyming games with a contestants name. The show wasn't broken.
How did JLo become a music expert? Really, you have to ask? I love the judges. These judges make it worthy of watching. AI is much better now than ever. These judges say more than just "pitchy" or I liked it or didn't like it.
Lighten up!!!! I totally agree-the new judges are the best! The show has been so much more fun to watch this year. Steven Tyler is the most amazing person-and truly real — Don't watch it if you don't like it-it's just that simple!
They are simply awesome and just the right balance. Considering the contestants that come through each audition, I would be a little loopy too after a while. Jennifer is very sweet. Randy keeps it real. Say what you will about Steven Tyler, his genuine gesture of kindness and affection for the young lady in the wheelchair was as sweet and gracious as any moment ever on AI. Kudos to him for showing the goodness of his heart. As for his reactions to hot looking female contestants That's what they do.
He hasn't said or done anything to threaten, harm, or endanger any of these young ladies. And if they can't take a little leering, they are trying to get into the wrong business. To Steven Tyler I say, "Keep on rockin' and keep on being you.
This show is a joke and the winners they push out every year suck. I guess the sheep that watch it will eat whatever u lay out in front of them.
Why people condone making fun of others from stars and label it "funny" is immature and shows just how much our society cares about how others are treated. That's what's considered funny? It was followed by a second black card, which read: "Mr. Tyler has been warned and assured us it will never happen again. Although many people had speculated earlier on what "it" was, the Fox producers were making amends for Tyler's comment last week when he joked that a contestant's last name rhymed with a profanity.
Fox declined to comment about the apology, and the show's producers did not immediately respond to ABCNews. But, why would they apologize for that and not the first episode, when Tyler came under fire for hitting on teenage contestants young enough to be his granddaughter?
The more off-the-cuff remarks he makes, the more headlines he generates and the more -- producers hope -- viewers tune into the show. Even before the 10th season started, Tyler was making headlines for comments he made about snorting Lunesta and partaking in a backstage three-way. Based on his comments, it was clear the Aerosmith frontman had not signed a morals clause with the family-favorite show or even been coached on what not to say.
He punctuated the auditions with his signature scream, sometimes singing and tapping along with the contestants. The show also played up Tyler's reputation as a ladies man with a montage of his comments directed at some of the more attractive female contestants.
