Hey whats going on everyone. I own a GST and this is my first dsm. Im probly going to be hated after saying this but I was a big honda fan till I saw the power and potential mitsubishi has. In the honda world people go around and say jdm this and jdm that but in the mitsubishi world its dsm this and dsm that..
Sort by date Sort by votes. Upvote 0. I believe you have missunderstood what those 2 mean. JDM is for Japanese domestic market. For starters, driving from the right can skew your perception of lane position. And passing on the highway can be tricky. You have to retrain your reflexes. From observing his customers, Driver concurs.
Nighttime visibility is an issue. Depending on your local motor vehicle rules, you might be required to change or modify your headlights for driving on the right side of the road rather than the left. Simpson feels that enthusiasts with experience working on their own cars, a good tool set and the patience to search for the correct parts may do fine maintaining and repairing certain JDM cars. That depends on the car, of course. Take the Honda Beat, for example. This tiny mid-engine kei-class roadster turns heads everywhere it goes.
The potential service issues are not small, however. I had one. And putting a new top on that car is about 87 times of no fun. It had started as a Suzuki-developed car and used a Suzuki-sourced turbocharged cc, hp three-cylinder engine. Fewer than were made. The Nissan Figaro is larger than the Beat and more expensive. But Simpson says the Figaro can be a bear to work on. He cautions that for true JDM cars, meaning those not originally sold outside of Japan, there is likely no English-language shop manual.
For many enthusiasts, the challenge of hunting for parts to repair or restore a classic car can be a way of life. There are a couple of good sources in Japan. One is Yokohama Motors. Mom to Krystal, Joey and Peyton. Ford makes land rover, and jaguar, and has a part in mazda. Hey, if you want to add a few more connections to really get the soap opera feel of the motor vehicle industry: Mazda and Ford are partnered up, Ford makes Mazda's trucks, and Mazda makes [some of] Ford's cars. Toyota and GM have a partnership, most notably the Geo line of uber-economy cars produced by Toyota.
But engineering similarities can be seen in most of the cars today I. Subaru and Mitsubishi had a tenuous relationship for a while, but their rally rivalry sorta killed that.
Ford recently purchased Jaguar for an unknown purpose. Dodge and Jeep are also under the rather large umbrella of Diamler-Chrysler. And the defunct Daewoo facilities were purchased under the Dodge name presumably to aid in production of Neon based vehicles. And lastly, not only is Audi the "performance" devision of VW, Porche is also part of the big happy VW family the original beetle was intended as an affordable Porche This is all part of the reason I don't think overly highly of the "upper-end" cars.
You can find most of the same engineering in far more economically priced cars, just without the brushed aluminum and shiny wood trim. Wood trim. That sort of strikes me as an oxymoron since its made out of polyvinyl anyhow. Trim is the biggest vehicle related joke I can think of. I dunno, maybe thats an uneducated opinion, maybe not.
I've looked into it some and a lot of vehicle manufacturers do that, offer a more expensive trim model, but don't make any noticeable changes to the engine, or design, they just smack on new trim and bolt on a turbo.
